Feminist Disney, im sure you’re aware of the study that shows that tv lowers the self esteem of white girls and child of color while raising white boy’s? i couldn’t help but get frustrated when i looked through you blog and saw the girl complaining about white girls being left out of the conversation. i couldn’t help but think what about me? im a dark skinned overweight black girl. i can count how many women that look like me on tv and still have fingers left over. Yep, I have heard of that study.   And agreed!   It’s not that white girls such as myself can’t find ourselves frustrated with the type of representation we see on tv or in movies- it’s that when we can choose to ignore some of those idols or not find them important/relevant, or when we can choose to (or choose not to) identify with POC characters, or when we can still dig through and find a lot of characters that look like us and represent us accurately and without stereotypes of our race or ethnicity, it really is a set of choices/options that are ours alone that many other girls have not been given the option of.
