I’d just like to point out that although Japan definitely does have a lot of problems with xenophobia, its only portrayed as this REALLY REALLY racist place because for once the hate is directed at white people. The stereotype of white people is that they’re lazy and rude so many white people will face discrimination based on this and it’s shocking for them because it’s the first time they’ve ever faced prejudice based on skin colour alone. But actually, Japan is a lot more open-minded about race than the UK and the US. Tell me, do Japanese people shoot white people in churches just because they’re white? No, but white people will shoot Sikhs in their temple because they’re not white. Are white people genuinely afraid of the Japanese police for fear of being shot? No, but black people are terrified of white cops. I’m simply saying that Japan does have racial discrimination problems (such as openly mocking black people on TV) but it’s a lot better than the UK and the US. White people: you don’t get to say shit about Japan. Stop portraying them as racist simply because you’re not used to being pre-judged based on the colour of your skin
