color me shocked, Yahoo! News actually has spot-on commentary for once.  They have a “sexy Halloween costumes gone wrong” type article up and their first entry is Ursula.   Commentary: 

Ursula from ‘The Litttle Mermaid’ was a powerful, curvy presence, but forget about finding this number in a plus size. Disney’s Sea Witch has been super slimmed, sending the message only skinny is sexy.

Spot on!  I loved this costume until people pointed out what I didn’t realize: they don’t sell it in plus size!  Nevaa buyin it now.

And for the “chinese takeout” one:

She’s a box of food decorated with faux Chinese doodads and the strategically placed words, “Enjoy!” and “Thank You!.” 1. Racist. 2. Sexist. 3. Lost our appetites.

I didn’t agree with all their commentary throughout- some of the costumes I did find clever/cute, like the hamburger one- but I was at least impressed with these entries because I think that’s the first time I’ve seen commentary of this type outside of feminist/ “social justice” blogs etc.   Which I think just goes to say: there is a point in discussing them.   Discussion spreads
